How do you think we could empower our Colombian students to critically spot fake news?

     Nowadays fakes news had been increasing during last years, it is because of the disinformation. Young people believe most of the articles they read, it is because they do not know how to differ between the real or false information. Teachers should be teaching to children how to get real and validated information (input) in school.

     Disinformation is a big problem nowadays, it is because children would grow up believing in wrong information, then they would share it. As a result, it will be a chain misinformation. For example; sometimes young people think that an article is true because they saw a video, or they had had experience about it. Then, they would defend that idea or that article as if it was true, (Young people can give you support points based on they experience or other articles they had read in the past). But it is no true at all, because they did not double check if it was true.

    The most famous media sources to share false information are the social media, such as; Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc. Social media are the best way to the disinformation because they are in trend; most of the people use it as the principal way to get information.

     How can we fight against the disinformation? The key is the education. One of the principal strategies to fight against the disinformation is teaching to children how and where you can get real and validated information.  We (as teachers) have to teach them how to use properly the Internet.

     Firstly, children have to check if the website is good, how can they see it? Well, it is easy, you have to check at the end of the URL, if the website end in; Org, Com, CO, Net, Info, etc. The best domain terminations are; org, net, edu, gov. Secondly, check in if they article or video have enough evidence, evidence that you can search on internet and double check if it is true. Finally, being critical towards the article or video, you can trust 100% you have to do your own research and check if it is true.

     As a conclusion, the input that children receive is on the Internet because they spend so much time with it. The disinformation is bad because can lead to chaos and lend itself to the crime. We as teachers have the responsibility to form students for the society

    Dear Hugo,
    Strategies such as checking the original source of information of any given news, regulating internet use and getting enough evidence with from other sources may lead to a better understanding and identification of the info our students are consulting on the web. But I would like to ask you the following:
    How can we control (if possible) our students' actions on the web when they are outside school?

Firstly Henry Giroux talks about the importance of students/learners in the universities, they have to take a critical position towards the university counts in a democracy. It is because largest corporate and market driven force to think in a different way, They try to become   you in a passive person in front of educational policy, in order to take control of the institutions.
